Selena Gomez has made the shock revelation that she’s undergone a kidney transplant.
The 25-year-old performer broke the news by sharing a picture on Instagram of herself in a hospital bed, revealing her battle with Lupus had led her best friend Francia Raisa (Bring It On: All or Nothing and The Secret Life of the American Teenager) to donate an organ.
In 2015, Selena was diagnosed with lupus, a chronic inflammatory disease where your immune system attacks your organs.
In a lengthy post, she explained why she had been absent for most of the summer as she shared a series of pictures of her scars.
She thanked her family and doctors and especially her friend, Francia Raisa, who gave up one of her kidneys to her friend Selena Gomez. “I am incredibly blessed,” she said. “I love you so much sis.”
