New Albums: What You Should Be Listening To!

With a new week comes fresh, new music. Saba, Adekunle Gold, and Junglepussy have all released new albums over the weekend. From incredibly instrumental healing tracks to afrobeats with a twist, you’re in for a unique yet refreshing listen.

Saba: Few Good Things

Saba is back. He has provided us with amazing material over the years from the streets of Chicago. Saba does an excellent job of conveying stories throughout each song as a non-conformist rapper, and he did not deviate with this long-awaited album. 6LACK, Smino, and Krayzie Bone were just a handful of the notable guests who appeared on Few Good Things. In his previous album, Care For Me, released in 2018, Saba discusses the agony, depression, and sadness he experienced after his cousin’s tragic death in 2017. Saba now details the healing process on this latest album.

Saba’s style of sharing stories about his life and the lives of others is highly lyrical. This album is not only musical, but it also depicts from track to track, the healing process from his perspective, and the sentiments that go along with it. Another fantastic album, with lovely violins, bass guitars, and percussion that Saba is known for using in his work. You will not be disappointed from the first to the last track.

Adekunle Gold: Catch Me If You Can

Adekunle Gold brought the Afrobeat heat into the winter. Gold is a Nigerian singer-songwriter who just released his new album, Catch Me If You Can. I like how he goes beyond the typical Afrobeat sound on this album. He combines elements of alternative R&B, amapiano, and reggae with his own unique sound. Ty Dolla $ign, Lucky Daye, and Fousheé were among the artists who appeared on the album. This is the follow-up to his Afro Pop, Vol. 1 album, which was released in 2020. This is an excellent work that explores a variety of life situations, love scenarios, and emotions. Adekunle Gold continues to produce excellent music that can be enjoyed anywhere.

Junglepussy: Jp5000

Junglepussy is an artist who defies categorization. She carves out her own path and always stays true to her message. Junglepussy is an East New York rapper with a smooth voice and slick lyrics. She recently released ‘JP5000,’ a five-song EP with a mysterious tone and a slower mid-’90s NYC sound. This album has an otherworldly vibe about it, wrapped in hip hop while seamlessly transitioning from one song to the next. Her words pop out at you on first listen, and she continues to be a captivating and clever lyricist within this latest drop. The fact that this EP ends far too soon and surely leaves you wanting more. Please do yourself a favor and listen!
