Mo’Nique – The Queen of Comedy Is Shooting Her First Netflix Special Post Lawsuit!

Mo’Nique is finally coming to Netflix! The legendary queen of comedy announced the great news via Strong Black Lead under Netflix’s Twitter account on Tuesday, July 19th. In the video message, the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning actress and comedian shares the news that she will be creating a comedy special for Netflix, as well as a movie alongside Lee Daniels.

“I’m so excited to share that I’ll be shooting my first Netflix comedy special,” the Grammy-nominee explained as the clip continued. “Oh, and in case you didn’t hear, I’m also reuniting with my friend, my brother, director Mr. Lee Daniels on the Netflix film ‘The Deliverance.’ You won’t want to miss either of them, so y’all stay tuned. And thank y’all, my sweet babies. I love us for real.”

The announcement comes just over a month after Netflix settled a lawsuit with Monique. This is a discrimination lawsuit she previously filed against the streaming service, citing racial and gender biases. According to the The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Wednesday Update’, which cited court documents, The two sides of the legal disagreement “moved to dismiss the suit”. Specifics regarding the agreement were however not made available to the public.

The comedian filed the lawsuit in November 2019. She alleged that Netflix broke the law when it gave her a “lowball” offer for a comedy special in 2018. According to Mo’Nique, she was offered only $500,000 for a special. All the while, Amy Schumer was offered $11 million and Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock were both offered $20 million. It seems that now the streaming service and the comedian have reached a sweet deal as they have now reached this new business partnership.

The special is yet to be titled and will be filmed in Atlanta later this year. Additional details will be announced this month.

It seems to be a new season for Mo’Nique as she and Lee Daniels have also made amends. Daniels directed her to a best-supporting actress Oscar in 2009’s “Precious.” Its been nearly 13 years since the feud between Lee Daniels and Mo’Nique began. The star and the director have reconciled and reunited for Daniels’ upcoming thriller The Deliverance. In April, Daniels appeared onstage with Mo’Nique publicly making amends for their relationship’s breakdown at the New York City Comedy Show.

Stay tuned for updates on this comedy special.
