About Kidd Kenn

Kidd Ken whose real name is Dontrell Smith, made an impact in Chicago’s drill music scene as a teenager with original music and remixes of popular songs. He discovered his love for rapping in the sixth grade while living in Chicago. Kidd Kenn decided to take after his Idol – Nicki Minaj and start his rap career. After he started seeing positive comments on his freestyle videos online, he says he knew then that he could do music. 2018 was a big year for the star as his first EP of original material, Childish, was released in August 2018. He also went to open a show for R&B star Kehlani, at San Francisco Pride in the same year.

Ken was signed to Island Records after their A&R representative Hill Coulson saw his retweeted video on Twitter. Hill connected with him, mentored, and later signed him. “He’s a groundbreaking artist in hip-hop who challenges preconceptions of the genre”. According to him, Kenn embodies the near-perfect ingredients necessary to make an excellent hip-hop signee. Kidd Kenn’s verse during the 2021 BET Hip Hop Award’s “Digital Cypher” was a crowd favorite. So much so that a snippet of the verse went viral.

Kenn has since worked on projects with artists such as Rico Nasty, Saucy Santana, and now Baby Tate. This new single is giving independence, security, booked, and being busy!
