Locs have long been a part of Black culture and have continued to grow in popularity. In fact, more people are deciding to transition from a loose mane to the coveted rope-like strands. It’s a common thought that once you loc your hair, you’re limited to the style. In addition, some people believe that combing out your locs is the only way to rock a curly, natural look. However, Chlöe and Halle’s loc styles have changed how the world views the loc versatility factor.

The sisters have served iconic looks with their locs. They’ve done so without compromising the health of their hair or having to comb their locs out. In addition, the sisters wear their locs proudly and give us all stylish inspiration. So, if you’re ready to take a style cue from the talented duo, you’re in luck. Here are six ways Chloe and Halle have styled their manes — with and without their locs showing!

1. Braids

Every girl loves a good set of box braids. Contrary to popular belief, you can achieve the protective style with locs. Chlöe is known to rock braids, and faux locs over her natural locs. Her ability to utilize these styles shows off her creativity and versatility.

2. Straight Hair

Halle Bailey broke the internet a few times while on the press tour for “The Little Mermaid.” However, she truly stunned everyone when she appeared with curly strands in her locs. With a closer look, you realize that Halle’s locs are still intact with extensions added. For more formal events, this could be the perfect loc style.

3. Updos

On the days that you want your makeup and/or fresh face to do all the talking, an updo is perfect. Updo styles for locs can vary from using only your natural hair to adding some hair for flair. Chlöe added a curly ponytail to her updo, yet again serving versatility. This is also a pretty simple, at-home style.

4. Wigs

Sometimes, all a girl wants to do is throw on her favorite wig, run a flat iron through it, and hit the door. With locs, that is still possible. The sisters have worn wigs on several occasions. All it takes is a quick braid-down, and you are all set. This process also applies to sew-ins. You may need a closure, but the style is still attainable.

5. Natural Curls

Although locs are considered natural hair, it’s hard for some folks to achieve the natural curly style. Chlöe, once again, has shown us that it is possible. There are several ways to accomplish this style, but crochet is the best option. Similar to wigs and sew-ins, a braid down is necessary. Then, crocheting the hair in is all that needs to be done.

This is another style you can install at home! No need to pay hundreds of dollars. All you need is a crochet needle and curly textured hair you love.

6. Natural Locs

Chlöe and Halle have provided us with various loc styles for inspiration. However, it’s important to remember wearing your natural locs is OK, too!

Deciding to loc your hair is a commitment and a journey. The loc journey is special and puts a person in tune with their natural beauty. Part of that journey is being OK with your hair just how it looks.

“It is an extension of me,” Chlöe told The List. “And it is because they remind me of how beautiful I can be naturally.”

Halle added: “It shows what’s inside on the outside. I truly feel like it’s a part of me and a part of my strength.”

The R&B duo committed to their locs even when it was hard. In fact, the sisters admitted to covering their hair to be considered for acting roles during their childhoods.

Thanks to the Bailey sisters, the world has learned that loc-styling has no bounds. The right hairstylist can help you broaden your horizons and explore innovative looks that make a statement.
