One thing is for certain, and two things are for sure: Beyoncé keeps her fans fed! The queen is known to deliver on the fashion, music, and philanthropy fronts. And now, Queen Bey has upped the ante with a haircare line.

During her Renaissance World Tour in 2023, the queen dropped hints for an upcoming haircare product. On Feb. 6, 2024, it was announced that Beyoncé’s business portfolio was officially expanding.

After posting reel footage of herself in her mother, Ms. Tina Knowles’, hair salon on Feb. 6, 2024, Beyoncé announced CÉCRED’s release date — the mother-daughter business launched on Feb. 20, 2024, with several products for customers to choose from. In addition to the drop, Beyoncé graced the cover of ESSENCE magazine

Beyoncé found inspiration for the new beauty venture through her childhood. The singer has not been shy about practically growing up in the hair salon. Ms. Tina is a career cosmetologist, owning and operating a popular hair salon in Houston. Beyoncé worked for her allowance in that very hair salon as she swept up hair.

Destiny’s Child also got their start in the salon. The girls gathered together to perform for her mother’s clients, earning tips along the way. With her earliest memories surrounding hair, CÉCRED is right up her alley.

Fans are concerned that they can’t relate to Beyoncé.

With the release of CÉCRED, conversations surrounding Beyoncé’s business portfolio have naturally emerged. In her 27-year-long career, the mother of three has had many business ventures. With the exception of Parkwood Entertainment, some of her businesses have fizzled at some point.

Fans have taken to social media to discuss why this may be. A common theory is that consumers don’t understand her personality because Beyoncé has led such a private life — primarily for her safety. She is a ferocious performer, a lyrical genius, and an excellent vocalist, but not much else is known.

For a product or business to be successful, consumers should see themselves in the person promoting them. While people love Beyoncé’s music and artistry, she is not exactly relatable from what we see. She is a millionaire with a billionaire husband. What could she have in common with the everyday person?

Despite popular belief, Beyoncé is a successful businesswoman.

In 2024, it may be easy to look back and say Beyoncé’s businesses have failed, but digging a little deeper may reveal otherwise. In 2010, the singer-songwriter released her popular fragrance, “Heat.” This fragrance was one of the best-selling fragrances of all time

Parkwood Entertainment was founded in 2010 after severing ties with her father, Mathew Knowles, as her manager. Since its inception, four movies have been produced by the company. This includes “Cadillac Records,” “Black is King,” and “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé.”

We also have Parkwood Entertainment to thank for all of Beyoncé’s albums since her self-titled release. The production company is also responsible for various film and TV works: “Homecoming,” “Lemonade,” and “Life is But a Dream.” She also mentors and represents Chloe and Halle Bailey under the label.

Was House of Deréon a flop?

CÉCRED is not the first mother-daughter business venture for Beyoncé and Ms. Tina. In 2006, the two launched House of Deréon, a ready-to-wear fashion line. Upon its release, the line had upscale pieces targeting middle-class consumers.

House of Deréon eventually released Deréon Jeans for juniors. Hip-hop/streetwear fashion was at its height when Deréon Jeans was released. Deréon Jeans was a staple among Rocawear, Echo, FUBU, Baby Phat, and Apple Bottom Jeans. Although the line was discontinued in 2012, hip-hop fashion was also declining.

Millennials and older Gen Z girls remember wearing and shopping for Deréon jeans and shirts. The signature Deréon coat was a popular item as well. The line may not have soared to international acclaim, but the target audience loved the collection.

Beyoncé’s business portfolio is quite extensive. Her business choices may be debatable, but she is far from an unsuccessful businesswoman.
