The nominees for the 48th annual NAACP Image Awards were announced on December 12th 2017, with Beyoncé leading the pack as expected.
If you haven’t heard already, the award show recognizes the best of the year in Black Film, TV, and Music. Leading the pack for the most NAACP Nominations is Beyoncé with seven nominations in categories such as, Outstanding Female Artist, Best Album, and the all-encompassing Entertainer of the Year. Other nominees of the highest honor of the night include Viola Davis, Regina King, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Chance the Rapper. However, it looks like the Knowles family has dominated. Bey’s little sister, Solange received five Image Award noms, herself.
Also topping the list of multiple nominees is Atlanta star Donald Glover, who received three nominations for writing, acting, and directing and Birth of a Nation filmmaker, Nate Parker, who earned three nominations
Newcomer Issa Rae, also scored an Outstanding Comedy Series nomination for the brilliantly hilarious Insecure.
The 48th NAACP Image Awards is set to air live on February 11, 2017.
