Will Smith Offers His Apologies For Oscar’s Slap

The 2022 Oscar’s Award Show was eventful, to say the least. The Chris Rock and Will Smith incident was a shocking spectacle at the moment and was discussed for weeks after the live taping. No other actor has utilized Instagram, as well as Will Smith, has, in jest or in controversy. After initially releasing a written apology the night after on Instagram, Will Smith took to the platform once more to further address the situation. He is dedicated to reminding fans of his goal to bringing love, light, and joy to the world.

On Instagram Reels, Will Smith apologizes again for his behavior and answers some hard-hitting questions assumedly from fans. Over the few months since the ceremony, he stated he has been doing some self-reflection on his actions. Although “sorry really isn’t sufficient”, Smith offers his apologizes to Chris Rock, Tony Rock, their mother, and the entire family. Chris Rock reportedly is not ready to speak with Will Smith, but will reach out when the time comes. He also apologizes to his own family for the additional attention he brought their way.

The slap was polarizing for viewers. Many believed it to be a joke or part of a sketch. Some saw it as a rightful reaction, while others saw it as disgraceful. Regardless of public perception, in his video address, Smith reminded his followers he is still a human who is susceptible to making mistakes. “There is no part of me that thinks that is the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults”. Citing disappointing others as his central trauma, he called to fans that may have been off-put by his behavior to “hold on” promising they would soon be able to be “friends again”.
