A Disturbing Clip Goes Viral of White Teenagers Doing Blackface in Sephora

Credit: TikTok @Temiojora

In what has been one of the wildest incidents to happen during Black History Month 2024, two white teenage girls were caught walking around Sephora in full blackface. The incident occurred at the Boston Prudential Mall and was filmed by TikToker @temiojorra. One of the most disturbing things about the video was that mothers seemed to stand there without reprimanding their daughters.

The video was a disgusting and disappointing scene, not only on the teenager’s part but especially regarding the parents. It is disheartening to see blatant ignorance and racism take place, but to see adults nonchalantly condoning it is worse.

A USC student filmed the disappointing act.

The USC student who filmed the appalling incident called the scene “genuinely disgusting and disturbing,” according to Boston.com.

“This group of teenage girls and their mothers come in and go to the makeup section to use the samples for blackface whilst giggling and making animal sounds,” Ojora said in the video’s caption.

At the beginning of the video, one of the girls is seen waiting for her mom to take her picture while her face is caked in brown makeup. A Sephora employee immediately confronted them to address the situation.

Since my first video was deleted. Genuinely so disgusted and disturbed. My teammates and I arrived in Boston for a track meet this weekend and walked around Sephora before dinner to kill time. These group of teenage girls and their mothers come in and go to the make up section to use the samples for black face whilst giggling and making animal sounds. The sephora worker (lady in black) confronted them and the mother dismisses her and walks off. After i stopped filming, both mothers came to press me to delete the video of their blatant r4cism because ‘they didnt consent’…

“I walked over here, and you were about to send a picture of that. Do you want to document this? Go ahead,” the employee said. “This is the stuff that ruins jobs and college acceptances, let alone how incredibly offensive this is.”

The video gets even more shameful and disappointing as the girls can be seen laughing and continuing to smear the makeup over their faces. The TikToker said that after she filmed the video, she was approached by both mothers to delete the video showing their heinous behavior because “they didn’t consent,” via The Root.

Sephora released a statement via X that the customers were asked to leave the premises.

“Sephora’s top priority is to create a welcoming and inclusive shopping experience for all,” the statement said. “We are extremely disappointed by the behavior of these shoppers at our Prudential Center location, and as such, they were asked to leave our premises.”

When will the blatant racism stop?

In today’s society, it’s disgusting to see such blatant racism take place. When does it end? In addition to white people, other races show such disrespect openly and unabashedly, which is hurtful.

As a Black woman, I consider Sephora one of my havens. It is a place I go often and enjoy spending time in. It’s awful to feel as though it can be taken away by a couple of ignorant people.

With the world already being such a critical place for Black people and Black women, there are few places to escape to that aren’t tainted with that energy.

After the viral outrage, Sephora revealed that the shoppers had been banned from the Prudential Center shopping location. The identities of the girls and their mothers have not yet been revealed.
