What’s on Your Block: 4 Groovy Roller Rinks Debuting in NYC

When an era is trending, it truly trends from music to home decor to clothing and even to experiences. That’s why we’re seeing the 70s influence in everything from Silk Sonic’s debut album to the bell-bottom jeans you’ve been seeing on every clothing website.

This summer, NYC is taking the trend seriously and rolling out several themed roller rinks!

For those of you who are native to the city, we’ve seen the popularity and demand for roller rinks die down over the last couple of years. Resulting in the closures of rinks like Brooklyn’s Empire Roller Skating Center and Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Rink on Coney Island which had cemented a nostalgic place in the hearts of many. It came to a point when Prospect Park’s LeFrak Center at Lakeside, Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 2 Roller Rink, and Riverbank State Park’s rink were the only rinks available in NYC.

But that changes this summer when at least 4 fun-filled, spacious rinks will be open. Perfect for fun days with your besties, a meet-cute with that love interest you’ve been eyeing all spring, or even a solo activity to get those endorphins pumping! Take a look at the rinks below.

Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace – Rockefeller Center

From April 15 through October, skate enthusiasts are trading their blades for wheels at Rockefeller Center. An offshoot of the iconic West Hollywood rink by the same name, Flipper’s will bring the fun with live performances and concerts, food and drink, and even a viewing deck. You might even spot a celeb or two! Is that you, Usher?!

Roll-A-Rama at the Runway Rink – TWA Hotel

Open Fridays and Saturdays, Roll-A-Rama at the Runway Rink is just one of the fabulous features of the retro TWA hotel. Get your rink on and your drink on while you skate to throwback music and watch planes soar overhead.

DiscOasis – Central Park

Opening June 16, DiscOasis is described as an immersive, musical, and theatrical experience. The groovy playlist, drinks, and good vibes will have you dancing all night long (or at least until 10 pm when the rink closes).

The Standard’s Rink – High Line

Opening this Spring, The Standard Hotel will debut a mod, 60-s themed roller rink complete with a neighboring restaurant and hands-free cocktails!
