VF, the company that owns brands like Vans, Jansport, Northface, and Nautica has just added Dickies to the roster. Dickies it primarily a workwear brand, but they also have a successful skate wear department. It is unclear if they will continue as usual under its new ownership, or if the brand will be absorbed by Vans.
The deal was struck at a whopping $820 million dollars. So while Dickies sales had been down they were still worth a solid amount. They are joining Timberland as VF’s most recent acquisitions (Timberland for 2 billion).
These days it seems like big business is constantly getting bigger because the major brands and companies buy up all the little guys. VF now owns over 50 percent of the backpack market! The big guys just keep getting bigger! What brand will be bought up next?
What do you think of the buy out?
