Top 5 Artists You Should Add To Your January Playlist!

Because January is often a month for starting anew, I thought it would be a terrific idea to feature independent artists. Finding non-mainstream talent is absolutely my cup of tea as someone who appreciates music. So, what better way to start the year than to become acquainted with these artists and maybe fall in love with their distinct sound!

Jean Deaux

Jean Deaux, a Chicago-based singer-rapper, is a must-listen. Her music is unlike any other; her melodic voice and slick rhymes trace back to the days of old Neo Soul, with a dash of early 90s hip hop and house thrown in for good measure. Her new album, ‘Streets,’ was released in August 2021, and I’ve been listening to it nonstop since then. Honestly, she makes her music in a unique way, whether it’s through her singles, EPs, or albums; none of them are alike. She is definitely someone to pay attention to, with such a powerful voice. Even though she’s been around for a while, now is the time for those who aren’t familiar with her music to get hip.

Samoht

Samoht, who hails from the streets of North Carolina, is finally breaking through. Please don’t confuse this man’s talent for his slick R&B flair. He plays around with his sound with such ease that categorizing his music can be difficult. His voice is incredibly heavenly, but he also throws in a little southern swagger. Samoht’s latest album, ‘Yang,’ demonstrates this; he comes in so smooth, but in one song, he can transport you to church, the streets, or a Thursday Night R&B party. Give him a listen today and let the richness of his voice wash over you.

TT The Artist

Give TT The Artist your applause if you like the catchy hook from Chlöe Bailey’s recent hit “Have Mercy,“. “Booty so big/ Lord have mercy.” The hook originates from her and UNIIQU3’s song “Off the Chain,” which appears on their collaborative album ‘Club Queens.’ I originally heard TT The Artist’s song “Lavish” on the first episode of Insecure, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Her music is a mix of Baltimore club, electronic dance, and Miami bass. She has such a vibrant tone that is intertwined with unforgettable lyrics. Make sure you’re in a dancing mood whenever you listen to her music.

Rose Gold

I’m in complete bliss every time I listen to Rose Gold. Her music brings a nice jazz and soul feel. Her light, airy voice is pure magic to my ears. Rose Gold is a native of Baltimore, and her musical presence is very refreshing to hear. Her lyrics beautifully express feelings and thoughts that are difficult to articulate. Even though she hasn’t released her debut album yet, she has blessed us with some singles, and my current favorite is “Stay Down.” I’m really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year has in store for her.

Jamilah Barry

Last but not least, there’s Jamilah Barry. Jamilah is that girl from the streets of London. If you’re a follower of the YouTube channel ‘COLORS’, you’ve probably seen her perform her song “Cut Me Open,” but if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat. Her music includes R&B, pop, soul, folk, and the list goes on. Her singing ability, on the other hand, is quite remarkable; with such a lovely vocal range, you won’t want the song to finish. She makes a concerted effort to experiment with various sounds while remaining true to her authentic voice. Just don’t take my word for it; listen to her music for yourself today. You won’t be disappointed.

That’s all I’ve got for now, guys. But I’m incredibly thrilled to start bringing weekly pieces about new artists, so stay tuned for that! Until then, let’s show our support for these incredible artists by listening and sharing them with your friends!
