Thuy’s New Ep – “I Hope U See This,” Is a Beautiful Nostalgic Piece of Art.

Thuy is a Vietnamese-American artist. Music has always been a passion of hers as karaoke was a big thing in her family. She always knew that she wanted to be a singer; however, there was no representation to draw inspiration from. No Asians were making music around her, so she always felt like she could not do it. The Bay Area native did it all, from studying academically to being a medical doctor’s assistant however, none of that was her passion. Taking a risk and moving to LA was exactly what the star needed to unlock her full potential.

What gave you the confidence to continue making music despite having your age discouraging you at times?

Thuy: I wasn’t always confident as a child. I didn’t love who I was, and I was pushing away my Asian culture. But looking at my parents, I realized how hard they had worked to create this life. So I had a conversation with myself about why I wasn’t accepting of my culture, and that’s where I started accepting who I am and having confidence. It didn’t happen overnight, but It’s something I consistently worked on.

Your single All night long has 554K views on Youtube without a music video, and it went viral on TikTok. How did that success contribute to your career, and how was that experience in general?

Thuy: I’m so grateful for everything that’s happening. It’s just insane that so many people are listening to and loving my music. This definitely opened a lot of doors for me. One day I made a video, and when people could finally associate the song with a face, the song just went viral. The cool thing is that I was able to grow my following, there was a spike in my streams and increase in my following, and it granted me the budget to fund my next projects, which have been really amazing.

I hope u see this…

Tell us about your new EP – I hope u see this. What direction are you taking, and what’s the goal for the project?

Thuy: I’m so excited for everyone to hear the EP. A lot of the songs are true experiences and raw. I’m taking you through the journey of heartbreak, coming to your senses, loving yourself, and then falling in love again, taking out the bad experiences, and learning how to love better for your new partner. My goal is for people to listen to it and know that they’ll come out a lot stronger. I didn’t do anything traditionally with the EP. I just wanted to tell a story.

About the tracklist

Thuy: The tracklist starts with Trippin –So I’m tripping over this guy. The 2nd track, Chances, speaks about the many chances I gave him. In My Head – it’s about wanting to try again. Figured You Out – is about coming to a realization that you are actually done. In My Bag – Is just about self-love, hustling, looking pretty, and just being over relationships. Then now, when you’re in your bag, you might feel like you’re ready to try again. That’s where the next song, Ride For Me, comes. Universe and You Got Me are the same vibe. It’s just love songs about having each other’s backs.

Thuy: The last song, I Hope U See This, just encapsulates all the themes into one song. “I hope my toxic ex sees this, I hope my haters see this, and I hope my lover sees this. But most importantly I hope Thuy sees this and is proud because look at where she is now”. I just hope people resonate with it.

Do you feel like you are underrated?

I don’t feel that I’m underrated, but when people think that you are, it just means there’s a lot of work to be done. I’m just going at my own pace and working very hard at being consistent.
