In a time period of police brutality, colorism and crime, Dallas police gave a refreshing change of experience to the black community. Actress and singer Erykah Badu was pulled over by Dallas police on New Year’s Eve, all because an officer wanted to say “hi”. Badu filmed the entire debacle, posting it on Instagram and Youtube.
In the video, among the flashing red and blue lights, you can hear the officer saying “I just wanted to say hi.” when the neo-soul singer asked why she was pulled over. The acclaimed post headlined Page Six, making good news for the new year.
The post went viral, Twitter fans enjoying the non-confrontational and hostile interaction between someone of color and the police. However, multiple comments about how the officers of the law should be performing their duties and catching criminals were thrown. Fortunately, that did not ruin the moment. Perhaps the officers were simply just in the holiday spirit.
