SISTERS IN BUSINESS: THE BLACK HAIR EXPERIENCE POP-UP

We’re kicking off Women’s History Month with a wonderful idea created by two culture-embracing Black women. We love to see Black sisters getting together to create businesses! Meet Alisha Brooks and Elizabeth Austin-Davis, the founders of the pop-up “The Black Hair Experience”, a culture place for Black women’s hair.

Alisha is a graphic designer and Elizabeth is a renowned wedding photographer. The two good friends decided to put their skills together in order to create this project. In fact, the idea of the pop-up experience came from a random conversation between the two. Elizabeth talked about a project on photographing black women and Alisha thought of an artistic experience. They combined both ideas which then bring The Black Hair Experience pop-Up to life!

A BLACK HAIR MUSEUM

The pop-up offically opened in November 20, 2020.

The Black Hair Experience was created to be a safe space where black women could be celebrated just as beautiful they are. It’s composed of original spaces inspired by Black culture. The walls are dripped in a magazine covers of black women, there’s a braided swing, and a photo space with afro combs, inspiring quotes room. Every detail of this pop-up expirence will remind you of being a black woman.

The goal of The Black Hair Experience is to promote the beauty of Black hair. We, as black women do have the chance to own a large hair culture which is a part of our identity. Black hair our hair is versatile! They can be kinky, curly, braided, with locks, weave, relaxed, or even bald. In fact, every kind of Black woman’s hair is valued at The Black Hair Experience! It is a kind of museum of Black hair, isn’t wonderful?

“Our exhibit transforms nostalgic moments of shared experiences into Instagrammable spaces that connect visitors to moments from their childhood, the vibrancy of hair in present-day, and create memories for them to cherish in the future.” source: www.theblackhairexperience.com

We know that COVID did not help small businesses, so it’s important to support and stand for them. You can find The Black Hair Experience Pop-up at 1540 Avenue Place, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Alisha and Elizabeth deserve all their flowers for their wonderful project that highlights our culture. It shows that sisters in business bring beautiful ideas. Next up the ladies plan to stop in DC for summer 2021. We can’t wait to see what other cities will be added to their list in the future. Stay tuned!
