“Zola” is the Most Anticipated Movie of the Summer

If you were on Twitter in 2015, chances are that you remember the infamous thread that broke twitter wide open. Black Twitter was in a frenzy as we followed along with the twitter-narrated story that began the thread trend.

In case you missed it or you’d like to reminisce, you can find the original thread here.

A’Ziah King, formally known as Zola, is a twenty-six-year-old mother, artist, songwriter, and downright baddie based in Atlanta. You may remember her from her video feature in Solange’s When I Get Home. If you follow her on social media you know a little bit about Zola’s vibrant and dynamic social media persona. That day in October 2015, Zola had time. She put Twitter fingers to work and made social media history.

This true story begins in Zola’s hometown Detroit, MI, bringing us on a wild and dangerous ride to Florida and back.

Actors and filmmakers Janicza Bravo and Jeremy O. Harris teamed up to co-write the screenplay that would become A24’s Zola movie directed by Bravo. You may recognize A24 from Uncut Gems and Euphoria.

In January 2020, Zola the movie made a successful Sundance debut. Promptly afterward it was set to hit theatres. After much anticipation, the trailer for the movie was released on March 31st of this year. As movie lovers make a safe return to movie theatres this summer, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on June 30, 2021.

Zola, played by Taylour Paige, is the only character whose real name was maintained for the script.

The thread itself was highly captivating, super suspenseful, and genuinely entertaining, which is why we’re excited to see how it will be brought to life in film.
