EDGII, Afffair, Torannce, and More: Our Favorite Looks From NYFW SS2020

The most wonderful time of the year in New York City has come and gone again. Although we are saddened by the end of NYFW SS2020, our spirits are lifted as we reminisce on all the heart-stopping looks that filled our week. This season we saw everything from white fur vests with red hearts to couture gowns with what seemed to be endless amounts of feathers and embroidery. We loved every second!

Here is your breakdown of our favorite looks this NYFW SS2020:

EDGII

For their NYFW debut, the Australian brand EDGII drew inspiration from everyone’s favorite childhood show “The Powerpuff Girls”. This was presented through the use of colors, patterns, details, and materials reminiscent of all three heroes. Each piece seen in the collection featured dusty pinks for Blossom, of course, baby blues for Bubbles, and neon greens for my personal favorite, Buttercup. The brand effortlessly blended femininity with more masculine silhouettes. It highlighted lots of fur coats with pops of color, parkas, and oversized patterned coats. This collection was a reminder for everyone to stand in their individuality and uniqueness. To know that you don’t have to try to fit into society’s standard of beauty. You can just simply be yourself––because that is fabulous enough as is!

Afffair

Designer Rufat Ismayil showcased his wildly impressive eye for detail with the Spring/Summer 2020 collection of Afffair. Inspired by the Khari Bulbul, a rare flower that is native to Azerbaijan, Ismayil stayed true to his roots. Featuring luscious fabrics like silk, crêpe chiffon, and organza in eye-catching hues of orange, lilac, pink, mint green, off-white, and purple. Every single piece was intricately crafted and featured at least one element that makes for a flawless couture gown, from crystal embroidery to head-to-toe fringe and feathers. The collection truly came to life on the runway. We would not be surprised if it’s in celebrity stylists top 5 designer picks for the red carpets and award shows to come.

Torannce

The Australian design label Torannce was established by Julia Torannce Hemingway, who has a passion for the extravagant and the bold. This Spring/Summer 2020 collection was inspired by Cinque Terre––seaside villages on the Italian Riviera coastline. The collection featured classic and versatile pieces for fashion lovers everywhere. Co-ords like a black & white pinstripe suit and polka dot skirt set gave us a refreshing mix of feminine and edgy. While long-sleeve silver sequin dresses in varying lengths offered a little bit of dazzle. Overall, the collection displayed timeless pieces that can very easily be mixed and matched making for countless looks that are both chic, and versatile.

DEA

Specializing in leather garments, Julian Ferro launched DEA in 2010 and it has seen much international success. This comes as no surprise given the runway show put on this NYFW SS2020. According to the designer, he wanted to ensure that the collection represented a modern gender fluidity, proving that clothing doesn’t have to fall into a category of “masculine” or “feminine”. This was seen in t-shirts & sweatshirts that flaunted bold graphics, reworked denim & leather jackets, and light-washed distressed jeans. It was a nice break from the usual spring/summer patterns and hues that typically lead the trends of the season.

House of Campbell

House of Campbell harmoniously blended daring, vivid colors and floating soft silhouettes in their Spring/Summer 2020 collection. Giving off some pretty heavy and much appreciated Blair Waldorf vibes. We couldn’t help but be wooed by the blazers over tulle skirts, burgundy velvet suits, cinched waist oversized button-downs, and calf-length socks with heels. The collection was a perfect display of preppy looks coupled with bold statement pieces. We simply need the entire line.

Sonya Swim

Created by Sonya Mefaddi just this year, her very first collection for Sonya Swim features swimwear and resort pieces for women all over the world. Lightweight linens, embroidered cotton, silks, and chiffons in exclusively black or white made up the timeless line. Eye-catching accessories like oversized earrings and raffia bags & hats were the perfect finishing touches to each ensemble that graced the runway.

Made With Love

With an uncommon approach to bridal wear, Made With Love displayed an array of untraditional and unexpected weddings gowns for their Spring/Summer collection. According to the brand, their biggest desire is that brides’ natural beauty will take the spotlight on their wedding day. So they create designs that highlight their different personalities. Bearing this in mind, they shied away from exaggerated detailing, outrageous trains, or huge skirts. Instead, the gowns were pleasantly understated with skillful tailoring and crafted with beaded lace, silk chiffon, and french crepe.

Portia & Scarlett

Pageant Queen met high-fashion in the display by Portia & Scarlett this New York Fashion Week. The Australian brand doesn’t want you to compromise affordability for luxury evening wear. The show opened up with a floor-length iridescent gown that flaunted a high slit. Each piece was progressively even more impressive and radiant than the last.

Eitan Broude

Inspired by the sky above us all. The Spring/Summer 2020 collection of Eitan Broude encapsulates the awe-inspiring feeling of pausing for a moment as you take a stroll outside, and lift your gaze to the skies. From the rich colors to the imaginative forms and striking silhouettes, this line recreates the incomparable surface of the celestial sphere. By incorporating blue silk and white neoprene, we were taken on a breathtaking journey through the clouds.

Haan Haan

Collection A by Haan Haan is completely transparent. It aims to showcase the beauty in the old and forgotten. The power of upcycling and recycling with a touch of imagination. The line doesn’t use any new materials but instead employed the use of 100% recycled PET fibers. Striving to attain total uniqueness and adaptability, their Spring/Summer collection featured white eyelet suits & dresses, abstract printed flare pants, and oversized sweaters & belts.
