#NYFW MEFeater Recaps Week One of New York Fashion Week ✨

It’s been over a week since New York Fashion Week kicked off in the Big Apple for the AW18 season. MEFeater had a blast covering shows and witnessing the newest collections designers had to offer. Below, we’ve gathered the best of the runway for week one.

Don’t forget to keep up to date with all things New York Fashion Week on our social media. Details and links are below!

Luar

You can read our full review of Luar’s Fall/Winter show here. We’re still lusting after it! As the title suggests, Luar well and truly set a tone for the week. It was an influential example of how designers can exist in the modern climate and how to adapt to a changing landscape. There was a real focus on extra accessories at Luar and they were amazing! The brand’s chief designer suggested the clothing reflected some dark times experienced and along with the inclusion of diversity in all its forms, this was a show to remember…for all the right reasons.

Dan Liu

Dan Liu had possibly one of the most enthralling shows of week one at New York Fashion Week. As guests awaited the runway start at Spring Studios, a mysterious ambiance was circling as the theme song of 007 was aired. However, Mr. Bond’s mistress was the main star. Liu captured femininity in a way that both celebrated the modern day woman but also gave us all the feels of past decades. In terms of design, the collection was very classic but a colorful statement coat or headscarf made the cut for lasting impressions. It was also groundbreaking to see eco-friendly materials used within the AW18 collection. The master of versatility completed his task!

Perry Ellis

Perry Ellis’ menswear show in the Hippodrome was a cool, slick and collective evening of fashion. This designer is certainly one who would inspire the most skeptical of males to dive into the art of wardrobe creativity. Michael Maccari, the brand’s chief designer, used an aesthetic that involved mixed prints, color pairing, and introductory pieces i.e. that somethin’ your bae would simply not wear usually. In a touching family contribution, Carmela Maccari created the hand-knits for Perry Ellis. Color-blocking and traditional menswear pieces were a heavy feature of the runway and a little addition of patriotic dressing was there to be seen too. Bravo, Perry Ellis.

Fashion Hong Kong

Another always exciting show! Fashion Hong Kong presented a trio of Heaven Please +, Anveglosa, and Harrison Wong.

Grungy Gentleman

Grungy Gentleman, the NY-based brand, presented their Fall/Winter ’18 collection alongside three collaborations; GG x Darelle Revis, GG x NBP Association and GG x Subway Tile Shirts Collections. Their clothing, as usual, is the contemporary wear of streetwear dreams. Another collaboration which featured some looks was the Timberland one with their oh-so-classic boots. As designer and founder, Jace Lipstein says: “It’s an exciting, fresh take on urban style, athletic tailoring, and mnswear alike..”
