8 Brands Who Got It Right With the Black Lives Matter Movement

Following the countless protests that have ignited all over the world over the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless others, several brands have spoken up with the Black Lives Matter Movement. The most notable allyship comes in the form of financial support to organizations and black-owned businesses. We highlight the brands that have always supported the movement, as well as the ones who are stepping up and are fully committed to putting in the work financially and vocally for the cause. Here are five brands dedicated to the Black Lives Matter Movement.

Ben and Jerry’s

Ben and Jerry’s has been extremely vocal in their support of the Black Lives Matter movement since 2016. In response to the murder of George Floyd, the company posted a powerful statement detailing a 4 step plan to dismantle white supremacy. The company has continuously been an advocate for black rights.

Savage X Fenty

Rihanna has always been active when it comes to sharing resources and raising awareness for Black Lives Matter. Savage X Fenty has donated to Black Lives Matter New York and the Bail Project. Rihanna’s other brands have also remained consistent, including Fenty Beauty and the Clara Lionel Foundation.

Glossier

Glossier is relatively new to the Black Lives Matter movement but was one of the first beauty brands to pledge its support to the black community. The brand has donated 1 million dollars to fight racism. They have donated $500,000 to Black Lives Matter, The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, The Equal Justice Initiative, The Marsha P. Johnson Institute, and We The Protestors. The other $500,000 will be given in the form of grants to black-owned beauty businesses.

Pyer Moss

Pyer Moss has always been vocal about Black Lives Matter! Bringing awareness about racial issues in the fashion industry is not a novel idea. Kirby jean Raymond, Pyer Moss founder, and designer has been consistent with intertwining his collections with statements that affect the black community. In his Spring 2016 collection, he boldly tackled police brutality.

Y Cosmetics

Although Y Cosmetics is still relatively new to the beauty industry, they have used their platform to speak out against important issues. Most recently, the brand has partnered with FIERCE 501c3 organization led by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth of color. For the entire month of June, Y Cosmetics will be donating 100 percent of the proceeds from their Whyshadow sales to the charity. So every $1 spent on Whyshadow products will be $1 that Y Cosmetics gives to FIERCE.

XOXO Virgin Hair

XOXO Virgin Hair has stepped up and shown out. For every sale they have received for June, a portion of each went towards Black community initiatives. They have donated to the Justice for Breona Taylor fund, the Antiviolence Project, Black Girls Code, Audre Lorde Project, The Loveland Foundation, The Black Trans Travel Fund, and Fundrs’ Collaborative on Youth Organizing.

GOLDE

Superfood health and beauty brand Golde raised over $10,000 in less than 72 hours in support of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. The donations came from a portion of their sales, which in one day surpassed their purchases from the entire month of March.

Jackie Aina

Although Jackie Aina is not a brand, the beauty influencer used her platform to push brands to take accountability and step up for the Black Lives Matter Movement. She urged brands who capitalize off of black culture to speak up in light of recent events. Since then, numerous brands have released statements and donated to various black organizations.
