The Season 7 finale of USA’s long-running drama, Suits will serve as a backdoor pilot of spinoff of the show centering around Gina Torres’ character Jessica Pearson, according to Deadline.
The backdoor pilot/finale will see the characters reunite Pearson as she adjusts to her new life in the Windy City. Pearson must rely on her legal wits and valiant relationships from Pearson Specter Litt to navigate this unknown territory.
“The powerhouse character of Jessica Pearson, expertly brought to life by the incomparable Gina Torres, has won the hearts of television fans everywhere,” said Chris McCumber, President of Entertainment Networks, NBCU Cable Entertainment. Alsom Jeff Wachtel, Chief Content Officer of NBCU Cable Entertainment and President at UCP said this:
“We felt we owed it to the audience – and ourselves! – to follow her journey beyond the original show.”
Furthermore, the planned spinoff will not be a legal drama like Suits.
As a result, it will dive into the world of politics, based in Chicago.
In addition, the pilot has a familiar team. It will be produced and written by Suits creator and exec producer Aaron Korsh. Also returning is exec producer Daniel Arkin.
