Spoiler Alert! ‘Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’ Embraces Teen Slasher Trope in the Best Way

Pretty Little Liars is back with a new mystery, and 5 new liars being harassed by a dangerous masked assailant. The show pays homage to various slasher movies such as Scream and Carrie. The first three episodes of the spin-off premiered Thursday, July 28 on HBO Max, and in many ways is like its predecessor. But in some ways, it takes on a much darker tone.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin takes places in the fictitious town of Millwood. Five teenage girls ,Imogen, Noa, Tabby, Faran, and Mouse, bond with each other after an afternoon in detention spent plotting revenge against their formidable bully, Karen. The girls soon find out they are being targeted by a mysterious masked killer known as ‘A’. The blue collar town was struck by tragedy 20 years ago surrounding then-high school seniors. Now more than two decades later, their daughters are now making up for their mother’s sins.

The first three episodes lay out the secrets of the small town. And eventually old wounds begin to reopen after the deaths of two of the characters.

The new Pretty Little Liars start to piece together a new mystery. They uncover what their parents were hiding 20 years ago. The spin-off is a delightful teen slasher that is sure to bring viewers in for a ride full of twists and turns. ‘Original Sin’ features a more cutthroat and ruthless ‘A’, hellbent on torturing the liars.

Two new episodes of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will premiere on August 4 and August 11. The final three episodes premiere August 18. The season will have 10 episodes in total.
