Solange Named Harvard Foundation Artist of the Year ?

Grammy-winning artist Solange Knowles has been named the 2018 Harvard Foundation Artist of the Year.

The annual honoree is selected by the students and faculty of the Harvard Foundation. It is dedicated to exploring intercultural and race relations.

On her Grammy-winning 2016 album, “A Seat at the Table,” Solange explored themes of identity, race relations, politics and empowerment. Her performance art shows at the Guggenheim Museum, the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas, as well as her art installation at London’s Tate Modern museum have all led to a defining career of visual art and activism.

Past honorees include Viola Davis, Queen Latifah, Denzel Washington, Shakira, and John Legend. Knowles will accept the award at a ceremony on March 3 during Harvard’s annual Cultural Rhythms festival.

Knowles was named Glamour Woman of the Year for 2017 and received the Billboard Impact Award.
