The Single Girl’s Guide To Valentine’s Day

Ah..Valentine’s Day. Spring is right around the corner, chocolate and flowers are intertwined with shades of red and pink in every store. Love is in the air; except for your air. You’re single and you hate it.

After celebrating a baeless birthday two days ago, Valentine’s Day is an unwelcome refresher that I am SINGLE.  But I am not alone! There are other lonely people out there too. Valentine’s Day can be a very bitter holiday for some. So here is a guide on what we can do to soften the Valentine’s Day blow.

DO NOT Tweet Through It

I’m guilty of this. VERY guilty. But your followers do not care about how your ex did you dirty and is now showcasing their new engagement and baby announcement. While we tweet through it on Twitter swearing up and down that we’re just sharing. Dress it up how you want to (venting, sympathy, just tweeting). It all sums up as attention seeking. What we really want is attention and social media is not the place for it. Avoid #relationshipgoals, #startedfromaDM, #PostYourQueen or any other trends that will give you automatic sads.

DO NOT Text Your Ex

A familiar face can be comfortable and your ex may know all of your spots but rekindling a toxic flame is a huge NO NO. Remember why they’re your ex. Don’t do it! Reconsider!

DO NOT Blame Yourself

Life events run their course as they should. So being in love just may not be in the stars for you right now. Relax. Nothing’s your fault and you ARE enough.

Invest In Yourself

So the perfect man is not in your life right now. You have all of this free time to do whatever your heart desires. Why not invest in yourself? Step your cookies up, boo. Take a class tonight. Learn a new skill. Try out that workout class you’ve been avoiding. Do something productive. That’s an easy way to take your mind off the single blues.

Practice Self Care

When is the last time you washed clothes? Cleaned your car out? Shaved? Self care is the best thing you can do today. As the legendary Miss Rupaul says: “If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?” You can still have your pity party by yourself but at least make sure the party is popping. Get a playlist going with your favorite anti-love songs, pop open a bottle of wine and love yourself.

SN: Take “love yourself” to new lengths! Try something new on yourself in the bedroom tonight. That will definitely take the edge off

Treat Yourself

If you want something done right, do it yourself! You want flowers? Jewelry? And edible arrangement? Whatever it is you wanted from your  bae, you can get it for yourself!

Spend Time with Friends

If you have other single friends, get them on the “Treat Yourself” bandwagon and step out tonight. Take advantage of the local specials in your town with your girlfriends and spill some tea. Who said the love you cherish today had to be romantic? Your friends love you too! Celebrate that!

Party!

If you want to be around a crowd then you go girl! Check your local area for some clubs and adult entertainment that’s open on Tuesday so you can get your entire freak on!

Let It All Out

It’s tough being  single sometimes.  We work hard for what we want, we are strong, and we deserve to be happy. You are human. So if today is your one day that you need to cry it out, do that. Whatever you decide to do, MEFeater is with you. So hold your head up and shine!
