Simpsons’ “Apu” Problem Solved; Producer Holds Apu Screenwriting Contest

Abu

The solution to the problem with Simpsons character Apu may have been found.

Producer, Adi Shankar has opened an Apu Screenwriting Contest after receiving heavy backlash on Simpsons character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon for stereotyping Indian decent. The contest is free 99 and open to the public, it will give one lucky writer a chance to write a screenplay for the animated character.

“We are looking for a screenplay centering on the character “Apu” set in the world and cannon of The Simpsons that takes the character of Apu and in a clever way subverts him, pivots him, intelligently writes him out, or evolves him in a way that takes a mean spirited mockery and transforms him into a kernel of truth wrapped in funny insight aka actual satire.

This contest is open to people of all ethnicities and cultures, however, if you don’t have any experience with Indian culture in America then you may not have the perspective and experience to write well on this topic.” The contest creators shared.

Each screenplay entry is to be 23-30 minutes long and the contest will run until June 30th. If you are an aspiring screenplay writer you don’t want to miss out on this opportunity. To submit your screenplay today head to https://writers.coverfly.com/competitions/view/80 for a chance to win.
