Sacred Saturdays: The Art of Adulting

Adulting (v): to carry out one or more of the duties and responsibilities expected as an fill as an adult/ fully developed individual.

Adulting is HARD and I’m sure if you’ve managed to come all this way then you most certainly agree. There is absolutely no fun in working 9-5, pay bills, stressing over finances, all while trying to maintain a social life with friends and family.

Growing up when you imagined adulthood, I’m sure you envisioned it different than what you’re experiencing right now. Your vision of a “grown-up” was this fluffy fantasy of no rules, staying out late, and partying all night long. The biggest anticipation of adulthood was that amazing feeling of having complete independence and doing things on your own. Yes, it all sounds so appealing. But being an adult in the working world, you learn it’s definitely not that simple.

From experience, Adulting is like looking both ways before you cross the street and getting hit by a plane. Now, that’s a bit dramatic but when your an adult you never know what to expect. It can become even more worst when you’re not prepared for adulthood and then BOMB you are a grown-up on your own.

For today’s Sacred Saturday segment MEF presents to you “The Art of Adulting ” a few tips that will make your adulting experience a little easier.

Don’t Rush It

This one is for the adolescents. We anticipate growing up so fast and hitting that ultimate level of independence that we forget about the responsibilities that come with it. Adulting is not all fun and games and it takes a lot of discipline and responsibility. You have to know when to spend and when not. There will be bills to pay around the same time you see that designer bag you want, but you cant have both. If you are in your adolescent years take your time with your youth and enjoy every moment of it. Adulthood isn’t going anywhere.

 Your parents were RIGHT

One thing you’ll notice when first entering adulthood is that everything your parents told you was right! Sometimes we look at our parents as just nagging and trying to tell us what to do, but they really just want whats best. Their goal is to teach you certain things so you’re prepared for the future.

It’s really a ton of BS

The biggest mistake many of us make when entering adulthood is we never learn what matters most and that’s BUDGETING and SAVING our money! Not budgeting and saving will result in reckless spending and always being broke.Budgeting and managing finances is an easier way to keep money in your pocket. Create a budget planner and list all the of your expenses. Prioritize your needs over wants then you can buy the things you want later. This tip really helps with seeing exactly where your money goes.

Take Care of Yourself

Consistent nights of working hard and going home just to get up and do it all again the next day can be tiring. You have to remember to take or yourself and your body. Drink water and eat healthily. Although you may work consistently you have to find time to relax and relieve yourself of and stress.  Try activities like yoga or going to the gym it really helps.

Balance work life and your social life

As adults, you sometimes work so much that you forget about spending time with loved ones. It may seem impossible to keep tabs on everyone while you are juggling your own life but you can do it. To help to balance friendships you can dedicate a weekend strictly for friends and family time. This gives you time to unwind and relax while surrounding yourself with people that love you.
