Our favorite alt DMV rapper is stepping into her punk look and sound. Rico’s latest single, “Intrusive”, is all about letting the intrusive thoughts win, like choking people out and spitting on racists. The chaos of the mind is well reflected in the music video. The camera follows Rico around from set to the walk towards the corner store. Psychedelic visual edits saturate the colors and distort Rico’s face to match her distorted vocals over the track’s low-frequency bass and intricate drum sequences. The scenes are cut with text from the editor, further highlighting the collaborative effort Rico mentioned this video was. She gives props to her team, the cast in the video besides herself, who encouraged her spontaneous creativity with the last-minute low budget shoot.

Rico Nasty “Intrusive”
“Intrusive” comes after her song with Bktherula, “Vaderz” and the announcement of her tour with Kehlani and Destin Conrad, the Blue Water Road Trip. The promotional video for the tour highlights the blending of Kehlani’s calm with Rico’s rage. And there’s a lot much to be angry about. The two energies will give show-goers balance and honestly, you need both.
