Ten Timeless Looks From The Oscars Red Carpet

The Academy Awards, aka the Oscars, provide us with the most glamorous red carpet of awards season. Somehow, it’s always a memorable one too. Below, MEFeater has looked back on our favorite and stand-out moments on the carpet over the years. It’s certainly been fun!

We’ve had the Critics Choice Awards, the Golden Globes, the NAACP Image Awards, the SAG Awards and the big ceremony of the season; the Academy Awards. MEFeater loves a good red carpet and the Oscars has been the ultimate one to look back over.

2018 will see Jimmy Kimmel host the 90th Academy Awards and after the Time’s Up and Me Too stance at the Golden Globes, we’re looking forward to see the attendees’ style.

One of our favorite Oscar’s looks below, as you’ll see, is Halle Berry’s gown from the red carpet in 2002. While it’s easy to forget, it’s still quite astonishing that Halle is the only black woman to ever win the best actress statuette. Of course, there have been women of color nominated but it’s a dismal sixteen in all ninety years of the annual event; eight* since Halle Berry won for Monster Ball. After the uproar of #OscarsSoWhite in 2016, the increasing diversity amongst the nominees has been welcomed.
