This Year’s NYFW was the Most Diverse in History! ??

The past couple of fashion seasonS was all about representation. The Fashion spot’s post-NYFW( New York Fashion Week) report states that Spring 2017 shows that  30.3 % of the models walking this spring were of color. This is down only 1.6% from Fall 2016. This means that this year’s fashion shows were the most diverse we’ve ever seen.

For the first time in NYFW history, every single runway included at least one model of color. Brands like Kimora Lee Simmons, Chromat, and Yeezy Season 5 lead the charge to diversity.  This year’s runways also made it their commitment to include more plus size models. With runways including a record number of 26 plus size models on their catwalk.

For the fashion industry to finally take a stand in diversity and inclusion issues it means a lot. But we haven’t even gotten over the first hurdle. There is still a more than a 50% gap between models of color and models who aren’t of color.

For more info on diversity in this year’s fashion industry, check out The Fashion Spot. There you will find a in depth breakdown of the NYFW inclusion of trans models, older models, and models of color.
