Beyoncé and Michelle Obama have approved Sergio Hudson as one of the best designers. The American Fashion designer showcased his latest Fall 2022 Ready-To-Wear collection called “Collection 10” in the heart of Wall Street on Saturday night. His thought process for this collection combined a Prince-inspired spirit of funk-fied sex and glamour. A majority of his pieces sold out almost immediately.
“For lack of a better term, I was feeling like giving it to the people”.
— Sergio Hudson – Designer

INSPIRATION
Sergio used a YouTube video of Prince performing a sound check at the 1991 Special Olympics as the main source of inspiration. He found himself mesmerized by the music icon’s extreme self-confidence. The way he strutted across the stage full of confidence and self-assurance. “It’s in part inspired by the singer Prince and the New Power Generation era, so everything is very sexy but clean and modern. I’ve tried to create a world like he did during that album run.”
Noting the post-Roe landscape, Hudson asked himself: What would a woman look like if she felt as empowered as Prince was in that clip? The result? A beautiful, sensual collection that captured the audience leading up to the sales.
The runway collection was made up of crayon-colored slip dresses; leopard-print coats; cinched, Pan Am–era skirts; big hair, and even bigger shoulder pads. There may have also been a few, if any, bras. There was a lot of flesh on display with fabrics occasionally slipping an inch or two and revealing the ever-controversial (and often banned) nipple. Whenever this happened, the models kept strutting and held their heads high. Sergio always fully embraces the concept, which enables him to show off a bevy of original innovations and styles. All of which makes him loyal to the brand’s basic DNA.
