NYC Vows to Keep Birth Control Free!

Since Republicans gained control of Congress, the fate of the Affordable Care Act has been touch and go and has many concerned about birth control.

With so much hanging in the balance, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman wants to protect free birth control, if Obamacare is revoked.

In what is being described as a “comprehensive coverage act”, Schneiderman calls for contraception coverage for both men and women in New York.

“New Yorkers have a right to comprehensive, cost-free access to birth control”, said Attorney General Schneiderman in a statement.

The CCA will  “statutorily require state-governed health insurance policies to provide cost-free coverage for all FDA-approved methods of birth control, including emergency contraception. It will also prevent insurance companies “medical management”  from reviewing restrictions that may halt contraception coverage.

Schneiderman hopes that his Coverage Act will offer a model for states to follow.

Steps to dismantle the Affordable Care Act have already been taken. On January 12, 2016, the Senate approved a Republican budget that would set the course for a repeal of Obamacare.

Only time will tell what happens to America’s health insurance system.
