NYC Rapper and Model, Leaf Shares New Video for “Dummy”

Leaf is back with new music like she never left – and she hasn’t. After her latest album, Fashion B*tch in 2020, the Brooklyn artist and model has been gearing up for her new project and living life as a NYC it girl. She is bringing looks, 808s, and her girlfriends to the visual for her latest single, “Dummy”. In the song released through minority-owned label, SLANG Music, Leaf raps about a boy who doesn’t have a chance, but if there is money to spend, she might consider giving him some attention.

Dummy – The Song

Her verses are full of alliteration, NYC references, and slang like the mysterious Bobby Shmurda hat and her suitor being a “dub”. Over the uptempo beat, co-produced by Leaf, her lyrics show she knows what she brings to the table and is borderline offended this boy is even trying to be with her. The playful hook prompted the #dummychallenge on TikTok, a take on the routine by legendary choreographer, Tenile Jimenez seen in the video. The catchy lyrics will have the girls repeating it all summer. In a statement from Leaf she says, “I’m excited to be back making music and shooting videos that I can relate to, and know my fans will connect with. Summer is about having fun and “Dummy” is a fun anthem that I know all my ladies can get behind”.

The Visual

Besides her skills on the track, Leaf lends her modeling talents to the “Dummy” video. Backed by her girls, the group evades the assumed ‘dummy’ that tracks and chases them throughout the streets of New York City. With bold eyes and makeup looks designed by Ernesto Casillas, a makeup guru on Pat McGrath’s celebrity makeup team, the NYC artist and her girl gang emphasize her anime-inspired aesthetic. The colorful, monochromatic outfits, and bunny ear variations maintain the playful theme this bouncy track provides.

“Dummy” is fans’ first taste of new music from Leaf. She is setting up to release a new project later this year. Check out the video below, stream “Dummy” and let us know what you think!
