Neve Campbell Announces She Won’t be Returning for ‘Scream 6’

Neve Campbell announced that she won’t be reprising her role as Ghostface’s favorite victim, Sydney Prescott, in Scream 6. Campbell, who has been apart of the popular franchise for over 25 years, released a statement reported by Deadline that her departure is due to a salary dispute.

“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film,” she said. “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly important to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

Campbell portrayed the ultimate survivor, Sydney Prescott in the original Scream trilogy from 1996-2000 before reprising her role in Scream 4 in 2011 and this year’s Scream. The next installment in the franchise Scream 6 will premiere in 2023 and star veteran co-star, Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers, and Hayden Panettiere who will reprise her role as Kirby from the fourth film.

Scream is credited with helping to revitalize the slasher genre in the 90s, and since its debut the franchise has grossed $744M plus globally.
