Gone are the days of music videos where the main objective was throwing hundreds in the air. Music videos are more creative and slowing becoming mini motion pictures!
Take Future’s “Mask Off” video, it is similar to a hip hop version of “The Purge” full of fire and looting. However, instead of murder you get rap and Amber Rose as the lead. The cinematic direction behind the video is impeccable and the growth in Future’s music videos presence is impeccable.
Future isn’t the only rapper making videos that belong on big screens. Cardi B is making that move as well. Cardi’s “Lick” video was reminiscent of a rap “Ocean’s Eleven” with Offset as her sidekick. If Cardi wasn’t taken serious before, this video showed that she isn’t just your corner rapper. She has bars and the budget to back a serious music video.
Rap videos are becoming productions that leave viewers wanting a sequel! As long as there are bars to back up the visuals, I’ll remain here for it!
