The US Military Says Transgender People Can Still Serve, For Now

The US military policy which allows transgender people to serve still remains in place, despite President Trump’s announcement of a “transgender ban“.

Also, this situation seems eerily similar to Trump’s attempts at a Muslim ban.

In a memo to all military service chiefs, commanders and enlisted military leaders,  things were cleared up. General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said “there will be no modifications.”

“I know there are questions about yesterday’s announcement on the transgender policy by the President,” General Dunford wrote.

“In the meantime, we will continue to treat all of our personnel with respect. As importantly, given the current fight and the challenges we face, we will all remain focused on accomplishing our assigned missions.”

Therefore, things will remain as they are for now.

On July 26, Trump announced via Twitter that the US Government will not accept or allow transgender people to serve.
