MEFeature: Get to Know Up and Coming Designer, CHÉ

We at MEFeater had the privilege of an exclusive interview with Jamaican born, Bronx raised menswear designer, Ché Young of CHÉ. At only 24 he has made a name for himself in streetwear and the fashion industry in general. He gave us some insight into his newest fall/winter capsule collection, how he got to where he is, and his vision for the CHÉ brand.

Interview:

What got you into fashion?

Ché needed fashion as a mean of expression, and because of his talent and creativity he has been able to turn his mode of expression into a successful career. He says his work is about, “telling my story and expressing my feelings through clothes.”

Ché also found himself,“tired of fast fashion.” He wanted to introduce a style that is, “outside of the box but still minimal.” Which he does with his capsule collection.

What inspires you as an artist?

Ché says, “Everyday people, everyday struggle.” He is inspired by feelings and emotion: “like the feeling of being alone and how that feeling would look as clothes.” Ché makes clothes that can help the wearer express themself perhaps more accurately than words.

What would you say is the main message of your work?

“Be individual and stand out from the crowd.” Ché wants to “inspire individuality.”

Check out the looks:

Ché’s fall/winter Capsule Collection 2017 is a collection of mixed pieces that follow his signature bold, but minimal, style. The brand can be described as menswear, but Ché’s looks can be unisex. His riffs on gender norms and emotion are very relevant. And it doesn’t hurt that the clothing can stand alone as very chic and strong.
