Last time we heard from Giselle Mynx,  she was debuting her first single, working on her EP and looking forward to life in its entirety.  Now, she is  working with an amazing band called, The Classic Kids, and is directing  music videos for artists such as Afika whose music video C’est La Vie , premiered last week. She also is releasing her EP Once Upon a Dream this fall,  and most importantly releasing her new Music Video ‘Girl’ exclusively on MEFeater!

When MEFeater spoke with Giselle, she said that she had a couple of secret projects that she starting to work on, but is keeping under wraps at the moment. “Summer is here so I can finally feel warmth on my skin again.  Life is good” she stated.

Mynx’s single “GIRL” is based on her true story about growing up in a broken home.

“My environment was wrought and seeped with a smorgasbord of abuse and abandonment and every foundation seemed to crumble under my feet.  In many ways, I’m still searching for solid ground.”

Giselle believes many children have hard and lonely childhoods in various ways, often with this keen passion to be more than their present situation allows. According to Giselle it is ultimately the power of girls (& boys) to rise above and beyond their unfortunate surroundings and to soar despite immense and difficult barriers and obstacles.

“We can change, we can grow, and we can hold ourselves to higher standards of responsibility and commitment to create the world around us a little better.  We can find freedom and little by little birth new realities from our dreams.”

According to Giselle, the plot behind the visuals for “Girl” is about finding the magic in the ordinary, the dreams and the unspoken worlds behind them.  It’s about becoming an artist to re-create yourself and the world around you.

The music video features a young lady, named Eva. In the video, Eva travels though Brooklyn lonely and depressed until she ends up at an eccentric home doing what comes natural to her, Ariel acrobatics.

“I actually had sketched out an entirely different concept for the video.  Then I met Eva (the girl). Her passion as an aerial artist bubbled up in such a beautiful way that I became passionate to honor her and all the hard work she puts into training  under the tutelage of her brilliant teacher, Karen Gersch.  So, I reworked the entire concept to showcase the often lonely and isolating world of a young person (in this case a girl) who is focused, dedicated and hard-working to better herself that she might acquire the skill to raise herself up in this world to a higher place. And also hopefully show how much a dedicated and caring teacher can transform our lives for the better.”

Giselle believes our society often undermines the importance of growing and maintaining deep connections with others, especially teachers. She says that the power of caring for one another can transform a person.

“We move at such a rapid pace, often cutting connections quickly before growth has had a chance to transpire.  We get impatient, we mess up and think it’s over.  It’s tragic it’s an increasingly normal occurrence.  There’s this perception, something, someone better is always around the corner.  Where is the grit?  It’s important for our growth to find those people who will stick with us (& us with them).Being deeply loved can make us strong, loving has the power to make us courageous.  A teacher can change the course of our lives irrevocably for the better.  I believe Karen is one of these figures in Eva’s life.  We all need people in our life like this. We all need anchors in our lives to help us grow as we challenge ourselves and sometimes fall short.  We need each other, we need kindness and to be kind.  Human beings are like that.”

Watch Girl and tell us what you think!

The Music video is shot and directed  by the talented  Chris Castellino.

Karen Gersch, which is Eva’s teacher directed the star of the video.  According to Giselle, without her, none of this would have been possible.
