Meet Pap Chanel, Female Rap Captain of the Pretty and Paid Movement

PAPTIVITIES

A star that shined beyond the border of Milledgeville, Georgia, has a new purpose, but with the same motto: PAP; Pretty and Paid. The duality of Pap Chanel is revealed through her body of work, especially the new EP project Paptivities, which represents her brand and fierce character. “Three words that I use in reference to myself are consistent, hard working and longevity. Also, Pretty and Paid,” Pap Chanel said.

After releasing her Pretty & Paid 2.0 album in 2021, Pap Chanel shifted the game, reaching Number One on the United States iTunes Hip Hop/Rap Charts. She has collaborations with the likes of Future (on “Gucci Bucket Hat”) and Blac Youngsta (on “2 Way Street”). In one breath, Chanel can rhyme as if her life depended on it and set any nightclub ablaze. Regardless of her feelings, she goes bar for bar in any scenario. With nearly 140M cumulative global streams to date and 7.5M YouTube views, Pap Chanel set her newly released EP Paptivities up for the ultimate success.

Pap is not new to heavy-weight features she’s collecting them like infinity stones. She’s capable of holding her own alongside industry stars and veteran rappers. On Paptivities, the standout feature is Miami’s Diamond Princess, Trina. She sampled Trina’s song “Da Baddest B*tch,” creating a modern rendition titled “Who’s Bad,” and she comes on the track hungry, repping her hometown. “Trina really helped a lot of female artists and paved the way from down South. She has been holding her weight for a long time. To create a song from her sample, and the actual artist that created the record jump onto it is a blessing. She has always shown me support, and once she gave me the opportunity and once that beat dropped I knew I had to go crazy,” Pap Chanel said.

PAP CHANEL & TRANSPARENCY

In 2020, Pap signed with the indie label 1865, which joined forces with 4th & Broadway, and catapulted her major label career. The Pretty & Paid movement continued to gain momentum, with more fans gravitating towards it. While working to hone in on her artistry and ascend her career to new heights, she made sure to give her fans access to a different layer of herself. ““Pap Stories”” is my favorite song because on this record, I got very vulnerable, and I wanted to be transparent with my fans because, over time, one thing that I learned is that once I tap into this world where I’m tapping into me and my personal experiences, it reaches a way bigger audience,” she said.

Transitioning into being more open and telling personal business wasn’t an easy feat for Pap. Going into music, she wanted to make her presence known and quickly. She established a brand with the Pretty and Paid movement, and the album named after that wreaked havoc. ““Pretty and Pink” was really when I wanted to know what kind of artists I wanted to be and how I wanted to present myself to my fans. Last year I took a break and I really wanted to tap into my artistry and how I create music and now I want to implement it into my music. “Paptitivies” is the stepping stone for my consistency and ambition,” she said.

Pap’s network and connections have given her the ability to be associated with bigger names and garner investments that allow her to soar with her potential. Her cousin in the NFL was looking to invest and start his record label, this connection led to Pap collaborating with Lil Baby on their song “Talk 2 Cheap.” Pap is classified as a rookie, but she’s playing the game like she’s a vet, utilizing her talent and strategically exposing herself in a way that aligns with her comfort. “I’m happy to be in this space where I can be transparent because it took me a while to get comfortable with that,” she said.

WHAT’S NEXT?

“Paptivities,” runs for 14 minutes. Pap wasted no time, she got in and out, addressed it, and checked it. However, this EP is just a sweetener and preview of the Pap Chanel her fans can expect to emerge soon. More consistency and focus are priorities for Pap as she continues to focus on her craft and push further for her dreams. Pap has the merchandise for her brand Pretty and Paid, and she has about six personalities to ensure there’s never a dull moment when she’s in the mix. “I have merchandise coming out, I have different endeavors like my cooking show and my blog coming. I have a lot more projects on the way. And I’m so excited for my fans to pick up what I’m putting down because I’m about to put my whole back into it. Everybody stay tuned,” she said.
