#NYFW: Luar Sets the Tone With Their Runway Statement

Luar Men's Fall 2018

Luar is a show you can always expect something good from, something to take away and this season’s show proved no different. MEFeater was in attendance yesterday as the label debuted it’s Fall ’18 collection. More on that below.

It’s certainly one of those brands which know how to exist within the current fashion world. Everything moves at a fast pace now and every label is meant to adapt to new trends and evolve. Luar does a great job of existing within that world but also staying true to the brand that it is.

The brand’s Fall 2018 show was impactful. A real focus on accessories was the main aspect of each runway look and a new interpretation of them, at that. Many runway shows fail to impress nowadays, they’re conforming to what gets them in the artificial spotlight but Luar is a brand that knows heritage is a key aspect in making your brand your own and gaining a loyal client base.

The label’s designer, Raul Lopez, told the press he has “been in a dark place” and wanted to “reference the collection for himself.” The designer was raised in New York and so he said the model that sported industrial stilts reminded him of the scaffolding in the city. Further detailing like the widespread use of perspex like material in accessories followed, going extra with those extra diamond earrings and the merging of garments to create a one-piece. Raul gets what makes a statement.

Overall, Lopez’s Fall ’18 show was one which understood culture and fashion and the importance of clothing being inclusive. Lopez understood the survival of a modern day urban brand is one which simply has to cross-reference between the old and new. Luar is most definitely doing that and doing it well.
