Las Vegas Mass Shooting Leaves 59 Dead and Hundreds Injured

At least 59 people were killed and more than 500 hundred people injured when a gunman opened fire at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. This mass shooting is now the deadliest acts of domestic terrorism in modern United States history.

The Las Vegas Police have identified the shooter as Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old man white male from Mesquite, Nevada. Country star Jason Aldean was performing at the time Paddock opened fire into the crowd from this hotel room on the 32nd floor.

Police said in a statement that officers “breached the hotel room” where the shooter was located and “found the suspect dead.”  “We believe the individual killed himself prior to our entry,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said at a news conference.

“We believe the individual killed himself prior to our entry,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said at a news conference. The shooter had been at the Mandalay Bay hotel since September 28, 2017, the sheriff said. And “there was an excess of 10 rifles in the room.”

Police officials have yet to label the mass shooting as an act of terrorism even though the Nevada State Laws has defined the act as such.

Nevada law does not require gun owners to have a permit to purchase or carry rifles and shotguns, according to the National Rifle Association. Carrying a handgun, however, does require a permit.

The state of Nevada does not require weapons to be licenced, though the county in which Las Vegas is located does.

Maybe this is time for a discussion about the gun control laws in the US. Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of the victims and those injured.
