Lakeith Stanfield Stars As Wrongfully Convicted Man in ‘Crown Heights’ Biopic

‘Get Out’ and ‘Atlanta’ actor Lakeith Stanfield will star in the indie film ‘Crown Heights’ which tells the story of 18-year-old Colin Warner, a boy from Brooklyn who is taken into custody and wrongfully imprisoned after a teenager is shot in the street.

The Caribbean immigrant from Crown Heights, was wrongfully convicted of the murder in Flatbush, Brooklyn in 1980 and sentenced to life in prison. His friend, Carl King, dedicated his life to learning how to become an attorney in order to one day, eventually, free him. After serving 21 years in prison, Warner had his conviction overturned and was freed in 2001. The film received a huge standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival, where it went on to win the main Audience Award. Crown Heights will be released in theaters August 25.
