Katy Perry Got Dragged This Week, Badly

Katy Perry’s recent rebrand has been controversial, to say the least. Her transition to a lifestyle of “wokeness” has certainly been met with skepticism. The internet has been suspicious of her motives, and a large chunk of people are side eyeing her as a bandwagoner. Regardless, it has become even more difficult for Perry to defend her new self proclaimed title (via her Twitter bio) of “conscious”, considering a joke she told last Saturday didn’t exactly land.

Perry was on Instagram Live, which tragically allowed her to face backlash in real time. A viewer left a comment, stating “I miss your old black hair.” Since her re-entrance into music making, her long locks have been replaced with a bleach blonde, cropped cut. “Oh, really?” she responded to the fan. “Do you miss Barack Obama as well? Oh, okay. Times change. bye. See you guys later.”

While the moment was confusing to most people, it strangely seemed to contradict her latest aesthetic. Also, matters were only made worse on May 2nd, when Perry posted an Instagram photo of a newspaper. The article included a photo of Perry’s Met Gala dress, which seemed innocent enough. However, there is more to the post. In addition, directly above her dress was a photo of a officer engulfed in flames. Oh Katy, why couldn’t you have used the crop feature? Her caption of choice? “All the news that’s fit to print.” she wrote, garnishing the post with two emojis: a finger pointing upwards and a red heart. Truly moving.

As a result, over here at Mefeater, if we listen to her latest single “Bon Appetit”, it’ll only be for the Migos feature. What do you think of Katy’s rough week?
