Jussie Smollett

Prosecutors announced earlier this morning (Tuesday, March 26th), that all 16 felony charges against ‘Empire’ Star Jussie Smollett has been dropped. Smollet who was accused of faking a hate crime (anti-gay and anti-black) in Chicago, told ABC News [amid other outlets], “I have been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one. I would not be my mother’s son if I was capable of one drop of what I have been accused of.”

Eddie Johnson, Chicago Police Superintended,  also expressed his frustration for the system. He asks “Where is the accountability in the system? Our officers did the hard work day in and day out, countless hours working to unwind what actually happened that night.”  Rahm Emanuel also demanded some answers — he said, “this case sends a clear message that if you’re in a position of influence and power, you’ll be treated one way and if you’re not, you’ll be treated another way.”

It’s still unclear why state prosecutors dropped the charges — admits Fox News. Cook County State’s Attorney spokeswoman Tandy’s Simonton issued a statement that reads “after reviewing all the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the city of Chicago, we believe this outcome is just a disposition and approvals resolution of this case.”
