In partnership with his own company, Morningside Entertainment, the talented Jerrod Carmichael has inked an overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. Carmichael has a history as a comedian, but the masses may know him for starring and producing The Carmichael Show, which was canceled last summer.

The show was canceled due to Carmichael’s own volition, meaning that it wasn’t because of poor reception. He claimed the show needed to end because he wanted to move on to future endeavors. Another thing that is possible to point out is there was some friction with NBC and the show. There was an episode that was pulled to Carmichael’s dismay. His show had a knack for commenting on real-life topics, but the channel thought that a certain episode was too harsh and didn’t have the right timing.

Despite that, Jerrod Carmichael has signed a promising deal with the production company he canceled his show with. This is a good sign that he is comfortable there, and that his creative process will be safe.

Johnathan Davis, 20th Century Fox’s director of creative affairs, released this statement:

“The end of The Carmichael Show was a heartbreak for everyone at this studio, and Howard (Kurtzman) and I swore we’d be back in business with Jerrod if we had anything to say about it. Lucky for us, he said ‘yes.’ This is a guy whose inspiration is Norman Lear and it’s not hard to see why– he speaks about what’s happening in the world and he gets people talking even if the subject matter is uncomfortable. Oh, and he’s also hilarious. He’s an incredible talent and a ‘television savant’ and we’re thrilled he’s making 20th his exclusive home.”
