Rihanna has teamed up with Issa Rae to host her annual Diamond Ball set to take place In New York this September

Not only is Issa Rae hosting, but another melaninated star is set to perform, Childish Gambino! In a recent post, Rihanna writes “Issa Rae and Childish Gambino were the dream duo for the fourth annual Diamond Ball and they’re coming!!. We are honored and grateful to have them help us celebrate the Clara Lionel Foundation this year.”
Both celebrities have received tremendous recognition for their t.v. shows which, to sum it up, focuses on growing up black in America and dealing with all the other woes we face daily through relationship troubles, work displacement, police harassment, and even mental health challenges. Issa Rae is the creator and writer of HBO’s Insecure (which, Season 3 just premiered last night (August 12, 2018)!! Childish Gambino is the creator of FX hit show, “Atlanta”, which is one of the highest viewed shows on the network.
I mean, what better duo could Rihanna have hosted such a powerful event?
The annual fundraiser is set to take place on September 13th at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The Diamond Ball Gala will benefit Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation, which promotes education and arts globally and assists emergency response programs.
Last years, Diamond Ball had Dave Chapelle as the host with Barack Obama as a guest speaker via webcam link. The performers were Kendrick Lamar and Calvin Harris. An auction of items from Rihanna, JAY-Z, and others which raised more than $840,000 from their auctioned items.
