As new provocative photos of one of Ian Connor’s alleged rape victims surfaces, her comments section on Instagram has completely flooded with disrespectful, disheartening, and all around offensive comments.

Though text messages released by Connor between him and the alleged victim are seen as compromising to her entire claim, does that mean she is now subject to angry misogynist that believe because she is a woman whom doesn’t “cover up” sometimes, or whom makes “twerking videos”, can’t be a victim of rape? This type of disregard and shaming is one of the reasons victims of rape do not come forward.

Alleged Rape Victim

Whether a woman chooses to wear less clothes, more clothes, shows off her body, hides her body, etc. It absolutely DOES NOT subject her to rape. In the media, women have been the victims and the perpetrators of their own rape by “wearing certain clothes”, being “too outspoken”, or “partying too much”. I want to raise two questions here. As women, or as people rather, why do we have to re-shape ourselves to fit the standards of society’s rape victim or respectable woman? Why can’t we be ourselves and be protected by society as dignified human beings?”
