Netflix’s Human Resources Shows Us The Wild, Emotional And Anxious Complexity Of Adulthood

If you loved the Netflix sitcom Big Mouth, you’ll enjoy the spinoff series Human Resources. Without giving too much away, this is a raunchy, adult-friendly comedy that dares to explore emotional depths. Human Resources shifts the focus to more adult content and offers a unique perspective by presenting their stories with humor.

The magical hormone monsters have returned with a new adventure. We first saw these hormone monsters in Big Mouth, where they helped adolescents navigate through puberty. In this new series, their mission is to help adults with their day-to-day concerns, including their own personal issues.

Grief, relationships, postpartum depression, and other topics are explored throughout the series, making it more relatable as an adult. We can all admit that as we get older, life gets a bit more challenging. Relationships get a little more complicated and we sometimes feel like we’re coasting. However, we can see in Human Resources that no matter who we are, we are all attempting to learn or unlearn concepts, beliefs, or social norms in our own lives.

For example, Emmy the Lovebug, played by Pamela Adlon is just bad at her work as an assistant and feels a lot of self-doubt. You’ll find her in limbo during this season, questioning her actions, the guys she’s dealing with, and even herself. Rochelle, another Lovebug played by Keke Palmer, appears to be wonderful and even liked by her staff but struggles to explain her sentiments to not just her best friend Emmy but also to her colleagues. Adulthood’s complexities can be challenging to navigate, especially if you’re feeling lonely. Human Resource, on the other hand, serves as a reminder that we frequently experience similar problems.

The difficulties, twists, and turns seem to fit perfectly into our own reality. This show has depth and tugs at your heartstrings while remaining hysterically entertaining. Even though we’re just at the start of season one, there will be a lot to cover because, as we all know, adulting can be a roller coaster.
