Whitehaven high school in Memphis, Tennessee raked up over $80 million in scholarships.
Yes you heard it right, six zeroes! Over 40 students earned a million in scholarships each. The school is labeled as the “Million Dollar Tigers,” for good reason.
Many students took advantage of group application fees, like the Common Black College Application, which allows students to apply to all 51 historically black universities and colleges at the same time for $35. The principal reportedly always told students that, “you never know where life can take you so apply anywhere just to see.” The demographics of the high school is 99% African-American.
