From Rico Nasty to Kaytranada- 6 Songs You Need to Hear this Week

Each week we compose a list of newly released songs that we think you should hear. Here are some of the best releases you may have missed this week! Don’t forget who put you on
Rico Nasty – Guap (La La La)

Rico Nasty should be on your to watch list! She dropped a fantastic album this year, and she continues to not disappoint by ending this year with a bop! Rico and Kenny Beats has this chemistry that is evident in every record that they collaborate on. Guap (La La La) may sound familiar to some because she previewed it in October leaving her fans anxiously waiting. She released this track alongside a dope music video where she takes over a hospital in a bomb banged wig *snaps fingers*.  As Rico continues to grow into stardom, we are excited to see what the upcoming year entails.

Memorable Lyrics

I got big knots so my pockets they be swole a lot
Like la la la la la la, I’m singing to the fuckin’ guap
Be-bet you, bet you, bet you wishing on a star
You praying that this shit would stop

Domo Genesis feat Buddy- Consecutive Normal Punches

Under the radar, Domo Genesis quietly released one of the best songs I’ve heard from Domo in a minute. Domo teams up with Compton native Buddy for a heavy hitting track lyrically and production-wise.  Consecutive Normal Punches title might sound familiar to anime fans as it from Saitama. Saitama uses this move in the intro of the show to take out multiple opponents which I believe Domo can definitely do with this record. Unfortunately, the Odd Future clan mate has yet to receive the accolades he deserves, but I know Domo is well on his way.

Memorable Lyrics

Act like you know who I am when I fly through the land
That’s some courtesy
Don’t hurry me, I’m so serene on the scene
If I leave, that’s gon’ breed an emergency
That’s urgency, heard of me certainly

Brandt Orange – “Flow”

Chicago native, Brandt Orange exemplifies pure talent on his latest record Flow. It’s a raw record that stripped down allowing his exceptional vocal capabilities to shine. The acoustics and lyricism in this track create a cinematic vibe that’s really easy to get lost in. Brandt Orange has shown immense potential and left us excited for what’s to come in 2019!

Memorable Lyrics

As punctual as you are, you always run on Harvard time
I bet your scholarship did run em good money
Them legs will surely run you good money

Saba feat daedaePivot- Papaya

Saba is finishing up his 2018 with a world tour for CARE FOR ME and dropping a few singles here and there for the past few weeks. Saba has yet to disappoint when it comes to his artistry. “Papaya” is the latest of his drops and it features daedaePIVOT and Ari Lennox.  This track Saba displays more singing than rapping creating a chill vibe. Undoubtedly this has been Saba’s breakout year which is bittersweet as Saba has been dealing with the murder of his cousin.

Memorable Lyrics

The fruits of the labor, papaya
One day we’ll split the pie up and maybe enjoy (Aw)
Your brown skin turns blue, under the moon
You know I don’t smoke, but you’d fire the joint
I just want to chill (Chill), with you

Kaytranada feat Ty Dolla $ign – Nothin Like U

Kaytranada is known for seamlessly blending funk, hip-hop, and electronic music to create a sound that is becoming a new wave all on its own. Off his recently released EP NOTHIN LIKE U/ CHANCES, Kaytranada enlists feature king Ty Dolla $ign for a perfect collab that we didn’t know we needed. “NOTHIN LIKE U” not only showcases Kaytranda skill as a DJ but it continues to prove Ty Dolla $ign’s diverse capabilities to collab on any track and it being amazing.

Memorable Lyrics

Lookin’ like a whole snack (Ooh, yeah)
I can’t wait I can’t hold back (Ooh, yeah)
Phone blowin’ up back to back
Tell a nigga stop reachin’ he can’t have you back

J.M.Z. – DMC12

UK native, J.M.Z. dropped a sonically pleasing track that can be paired with a night drive or something just to vibe out to. This track has a nostalgic electronic feel coupled with a modern beat which fits cohesively with the title which hints at a Back to the Future reference. He skillfully creates a layered sound that’s unique and creative. This sonic diversity is what sets J.M.Z. apart from pack allowing him to produce a dreamy well-mastered sound.
