From Noname to Lizzo- 6 Songs You Need to Hear this Week

Each week, we compose a list of newly released songs that we think you should hear.  Here are some of the best releases you may have missed this week!

Lizzo “Juice”

We just can’t get enough of the Minneapolis native Lizzo. Flutist/body positive/songstress dropped this retro- hit “Juice” and it’s amazing!! The visuals are giving us a much-needed redemption of Coming to America notable “Let your soul glow” and other nostalgic moments from the 80s and 90s. As she continues on her streak of feel-good singles about self love Lizzo has our full attention and we can’t wait from new music from the songstress.

Quotable Lyrics

If I’m shiny, everybody gonna shine (Yeah, I’m goals)
I was born like this, don’t even gotta try (Now you know)
I like , get better over time (So you know)
Heard you say I’m not the , bitch, you lie

Noname “Song 31”

Independent artist, Noname, opens the new year with a new single entitled “Song 31”. This comes after the release of Noname’s first ever music video for Blaxploitation and her 2018 album “Room 25”. Noname continually proves her skills as a visual storyteller and rapper. Noname stated in a tweet “When you arguing yo homies over whether or not I can rap, send them this”.

Quotable Lyrics

I sell pain for profit, and I feel prophet watchin’
Everything is for everything, rhymin’ with causality
Ain’t no labels that’s backing me, but my tickets be sellin’ out
And I’m steady raising my fee, that’s another hit from my fee

Teenear “Need Your Love”

Miami songwriter and songstress Teenear exemplify vulnerability and sultry vocals with her single “Need Your Love”. This song takes me back to an early 2000’s r&b cut and shows that Teenear is on the cusp of the next returning wave of r&b. “Need Your Love” is a hit and I’m excited to see what’s to come for the songstress in 2019.

Quotable Lyrics

I hope that you love me like I love you because
I think that we can make this last forever but
I’m scared to go too far with this
I need your love

Elujay “Blu”

California native, , comes through with a smooth vibey record entitled “Blu”. has this voice that just glides right on top of the beat that just makes you feel. “Blu” is a song that you just want to listen to over and over. With hints of blues and jazz Elujay is coming into his own as an artist and his growth is undeniable. is set to release his sophomore album the first quarter of this year.

Quotable Lyrics

Tell me what it’s like when you feel
I need someone to show me that real
If she want me to think that it’s gon hurt
Something like prized possessions
But I got perfect intentions

Leven Kali “Thursday”

Leven Kali R&B singer, songwriter, producer should definitely be on your radar for 2019. Although he his known for his work more notable work on Playboi Carti’s mixtape and the infamous collaboration with the Internet’s Syd on “Do U Wrong” he’s been involved in some of your favorite artist top projects and singles from Drake to Thundercat. “Thursday” is one of those songs that you turn on and you start nodding your head to and you just know this is a hit. “Thursday” is a R&B bop that displays Leven Kali’s effortless vocal range and creativity to make this record feel and new at the same time. “Thursday” is off of Leven Kali recently released EP ‘I Get High When I Think About Us’.

Quotable Lyrics

We go up to floor
I need all your cell phones
This shit ain’t for nobody
Do this shit in private, yeah
Gotta be invited, yeah
On a Thursday night

SMKRSROOM “Cool Me Down”

Orlando native SMKRSROOM track “Cool Me Down” is the perfect record for a long night drive with friends. It’s a breezy pop record with melodic vocals that like a teenage dream. SMKRSROOM shows immense potential vocally and creatively. He is currently working on an EP but no official release date has been set yet. We definitely are looking forward to what’s next.

Quotable Lyrics

Pour it up til’ I’m on another planet
All I need and now is something around
