From Kash Doll to Yuna: 6 Songs You Should Listen to This Week

Each week we compose a list of newly released songs that we think you should hear.  Here are some of the best releases you may have missed this week! Don’t forget who put you on!

Ready Set // Kash Doll feat. Big Sean

It’s been a while since we’ve heard Big Sean grace the chorus of a song. Kash Doll understands the importance of placement in a song, and this one is fleshed in a pretty perfect way. With only two verses and a fixed chorus, each flow is peeling back new layers with different concepts. The infectious beat will make its way up the charts in no time- not to mention the fact that this is the beginning of an iconic duo!

Simple Pleasures // AUGUST 08 feat. Goldlink

Rising musician, AUGUST 08 has released Simple Pleasure with singer/rapper Goldlink. The modern disco nightlife comes to life in this song. There is an elusive sense of sultry lingo, and an undeniable groove. Goldlink is magically placed in a section of the song that exudes a sexual energy. What better way to emphasize the importance of a summer filled with partying?

1000 Nights // Ed Sheeran, Meek Mill and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie

If there’s anything Ed Sheeran did right on an album filled with just features, it was catering to his features. Each song is quite the experiment, because of course we did not expect any of these features to ever exist, yet the beat and context of each song is very much like each other. That is to stay that each transition is pretty smooth, but ‘1000 Nights’ might have taken the cake for how strong it can hit each of those factors on the nail. The features also cater to Sheeran; Meek mentions Sheeran, while A Boogie discovers elements of his adventures in London. This strange trio is on to something, and you definitely don’t want to miss out on that.

It Is What It Is // ANE

Featuring new artists is always one of our primary focuses. Ane exclusively released her single ‘It Is What It Is’ on the FADER. In a wonderful melody of what seems like word vomit, Ane introduces a seemingly vulnerable personality to us. In a very Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel way, Ane is elongating her words and then suddenly condensing them. She has a very evident knack for soaking her energy in a dream sequence sort of feel. That’s something that holds nothing less than star power.

Likes // Yuna feat. KYLE

Last Friday, Yuna released her debut album, Rouge! ‘Likes’ is one of the songs on the album that is quite telling of her beliefs in the age of social media. She discovers themes of superficiality, materialism and the toxicity of Instagram. Rapper, Kyle sticks straight to the them while keeping a flow that may cause you to forget the context of the song. Nonetheless, this song is important to emphasize, you should definitely check it out.

Dark & Handsome // Blood Orange feat. Toro y Moi

On what seemed like an impulsive whim, Blood Orange released his fourth studio album, Angel’s Pulse. ‘Dark & Handsome’ automatically was written off as a fan-favorite, specifically because of the Toro y Moi feature. Like much of Blood Orange’s material, the song is quite eerie yet still contains an element of sexual energy. The transitions provided in between the songs, makes the album a true listening experience. ‘Dark & Handsome’, having one of the most prominent ones.
